SUMMARY
All software installed on the Digital Desktop images should be configured to store all temp/large files on the 2TB attached storage, to avoid disks filling up.
DESCRIPTION
Digital Desktop has a 2TB drive attached, yet tools like Tableau and Alteryx use the default %appdata% configuration which is on the C: drive. When using the large-scale data manipulation tools like Alteryx, the C: drive can easily fill up while the 2TB data drive remains virtually empty.
All tools, such as Alteryx (temp files), Tableau (temp folders), SQL Server (data/log/temp database files), etc should be pre-configured to utilize this massive drive attached to the machine. This should help users avoid common problems such as disks filling up, not being able to find the files, etc.
BUSINESS VALUE
Relatively little, as only a small subset of users use the Digital Desktop heavily, and of those only a small subset will use files big enough to fill up the C: drive. However, if the effort is low, this may be worth it to help with future support issues, and for teams that use large files (eg, Forensics).
